Tourism in Ostuni is a major part of the economy, every summer thousands of visitors throng the town centre to saviour the atmosphere of this friendly City, wine, dine and relax. The historical citadel with its white washed walls can be seen for miles away from its position 700 feet above sea level and conversely the view from the ancient walls are worth the visit alone, to see the coastal plain covered with olive trees right across to the Adriatic coast and azure sea 5 miles away.

The city population is nominally just over 31,000 people, but during the high season this rises to over 100,000 plus, of mainly Italians enjoying their breaks away from the colder northern industrial towns and cities.
