Because of its relatively central position in "Apulia" Ostuni is used by many as a holiday base from which to explore the wider region and with the north - south motorway just a few minutes away it is an excellent choice.

Many visitors and holiday makers rarely stray from the city itself apart from day trips to the local beaches, but a little further a field are many interesting places of interest. Close by are the towns of Ceglie Messapica, Martina Franca, Cisternino  with interesting historical old quarters of their own and then there are the world famous trulli of Alberobello, which is a must for all first time visitors to the area.

If you enjoyed your time in the Ostuni Historic Centre, then a visit to Polignano a Mare (a 30 minute drive towards Bari) where the old quarter is perched on the edge of vertical cliffs overlooking the pristine waters of the Adriatic, giving rise to splendid photo opportunities.

Another "must see" whilst taking a break in Ostuni is Alberobello, west of the town about 45 minutes drive away. It is a one of a kind, so much so, that it has World Heritage status because of the extraordinary ancient trulli districts, the perfect place to spend an enjoyable day.

Less than 20 miles away is the baroque old hill town of Martina Franca, an impressive place, which should take you about 40 minutes pleasant drive via Ceglie, take the SS581 then the SP22.

Less than 10 miles east of Ostuni on the SP17 (it should take about 20 minutes) is another hill town with a medieval old quarter, Cisternino, a pleasant place to while away an afternoon.

To the east on the SS16, 15 miles away is the City of Fasano with its nice town centre, cave dwellings, roman site and pleasant coastal resorts.

Further north along the coast is the historical town and holiday resort of Monopoli, it still has some of its original walls standing and a nice castle.
